It’s Saturday and it’s springtime. What shall we do? A picnic, of course!
Before the sun gets too strong, causing rashes and sunstrokes, enjoy a warm spring day with only a t-shirt on. Fill a picnic basket and head towards green meadows, sweet-smelling plains and shady hills. A fantastic relaxing day is just ahead!
You’ll be surprised to see how an apparently tiring and time-requiring arrangement will turn out to be a quick and funny experience, if you prioritise few aspects.
First of all, arrange your “mobile house”, replacing your real one for a few hours. Get two wide plaid rugs , a table-cloth (possibly chequered red and white!) and a sheet to be placed on the ground, to avoid humidity and insects. A pair of air cushions will be perfect for both sitting and taking a nap after lunch.
Don’t be tempted by cheap plastic items! A pair of drinking flutes (avoid modular ones…to drink more comfortably) and resistant cutlery will be ok. Linen napkins are the perfect solution, as they won’t fly away and pollute the park if the wind starts to blow. By following these basic rules, your lunch will be perfect and elegant …and also very different from what you usually see around!
A good book is an absolute must for relaxing. I suggest avoiding music…. the cheerful chirp of sparrows and great tits is definitely much better.
What’s inside your basket will be crucial to determine the success of your picnic. A high-quality Prosecco either French or Italian is essential to accompany your lunch. Simple recipes and easy- to- serve delicacies are preferable: quiche lorraine slices – exquisite when warm, cheese cubes accompanied by honey and different types of jams, bread with walnuts or raisins (for a special taste), some olives as a snack and mini club sandwiches will satiate the whole group! After lunch, everybody will surely appreciate some fruit …and of course a handmade cake, as you’re not supposed to get the dessert from the nearest bar! So why not cooking exquisite carrot muffins or delicious brownies? They’re easy to make …with a great result!
So…what’s inside your picnic basket?
